I don’t know about you….
But I am tired! It’s back to the grind after a long weekend of fun and sun with friends & family. Those days are the days I live for.. deep conversations, good food, great company. Fellowshipping at it’s finest.
I want to share something that has continued to stir in my spirit this last week.. boy is God good.
No matter where I went this last week, I kept feeling God tell me “Remember me. Remember Me for who I am.”
Maybe you are like me and feel there is a million things going on. To be transparent, some rocky things have been happening in the Free Citizen household. A big transformation at work has caused me to be placed in a job I am not passionate about ( I work full time for a retail corp and do Free Citizen in case you didn’t know :)), the transition into marriage for both me and my fiance has been hard, and one of my favorite people in the whole world passed away. For Free Citizen specifically, we have big dreams and hopes for big missions and outreach, but the funding piece has been really difficult for us. It has been discouraging to say the least.
In a world of unknown and unexpected outcomes, it’s easy to find ourselves worried and doubtful of an abundant future.
God is good through it all. He is faithful. This last week when He has been whispering in my ear “remember Me”, He also reminded me of who He is through His Word. It helped me to stop striving to be certain things or feel different ways, and instead brought me back to peace in Christ (similar to what we talked about in our coffee chat here). Here are a few things He reminded me:
He is the God- of – Angel – Armies. 2 Kings 6:8-23
So many times in the old testament did prophets and angels refer to God as the “God of Angel Armies”. One of my favorite passages that represent this is when prophet Elisha was being hunted down by the king and his army. When the king’s army surrounded the village he was in, his attendant told him and was scared. Elisha said to him “do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed to God to let his attendant see what he saw. And there it is revealed! There were chariots of fire surrounding Elisha and the kings army all the way up to the mountains! God sent his angel army to protect and defend Elisha! No one could see but Elisha and his attendant. The end of the story? He got away and lived. God and his protecting angels are with us, even when we may not see it… but let us see! We have the God of angels armies with us at all times!
He is the God Who Makes Kingdom Walls Fall. Joshua 6:20
Many have heard the story of the wall of Jericho.. have you? I love this story because it is story of faith, obedience and perseverance. Joshua 6 tells the story of how God instructed Joshua and his army to march around the city of Jericho for 7 days and on the last day, after walking around the wall multiple times, God said ‘sound the trumpets‘ and the wall of Jericho fell so they could take over the city. But one of my favorite parts of this story was before the armies ever got instruction. When Joshua came up to the wall of Jericho, the bible said that the gates of Jericho were securely barred. Then the Lord said to Joshua “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with the kings and it’s fighting men.” God continued to give him instruction on what to do. But as God told Joshua to “see”, Joshua was staring at a high, securely fastened wall!
God often times says the same thing to us.. which is faith! See what is not yet physically seen. See the wall in your life falling down even when you are staring at a strong standing brick wall that you cannot defeat alone. Let us stay obedient to what God tells us, and we may just need to blow a trumpet, too 🙂
He is a God who Parts Seas. Exodus 14:21
When Moses led the slaves out of Egypt, God led him to the red sea. Moses and the Israelites were at a stand still, with the Egyptian army coming from behind them. I don’t know about you, but if I was standing in front of a Sea and there was a powerful army coming after me, i would probably pee my pants. But God had Moses stretch out his staff and God parted the Red Sea. The Israelites walked across and God closed the sea behind them, making it so the Egyptian army could not get to them. God made a way out of no way! There was no path to be seen, but God produced one for His people. Maybe that is you.. that has been me for sure. You don’t see a path in sight but are hoping for a way to go… God can make a secret passage way for you.. that is only for you. Do not lose hope that God is going to provide for you!
God is a God Who Sets Captives Free
The Bible is full of scriptures of God delivering His people. We read about individuals who He rescues to large bodies of people. But what ultimately set us free? Jesus Christ. He came so that we may live free from sin and death. No longer will the prince of the this world have authority over us! No longer will we be captives to sin and immorality! That doesn’t mean that we do not have struggles and strongholds. One thing I struggled with (and still do) was my hot head nature. Whenever I got mad and blew up, I felt condemned. The devil would spit lies at me that I was never going to change and that I will continue to ruin good things because of my anger. God never condemns or calls us out on our sin, He shows us areas in which He wants to deliver us. I started asking God to SHOW me my faults, and I asked for deliverance. Although He is still working on me, my anger has gotten so much better. That is only one example… God has delivered me from so much! I no longer feel captive to sin… instead I run to God with my struggles because He is my safe place and redeemer.
He is the same for you. Right now, I am super struggling with doubts of the future and when I am too far in doubt to run to anybody, God calls me to Him. He says “Remember Me. Remember me for who I Am”. It brings me back to hoping in God, not in myself or anyone else. It brings me to a place of peace, instead of panic. It reminds me that no matter what this fallen world throws at me, my rock and salvation is in God ALONE.
As God continued to whisper in my ear, He told me to share with you that He is a faithful Father. He literally thinks about you, plans for you, provides for you and is protecting you, just as a perfect father would. I want to invite you to listen to our coffee chat series we have started back up. It is about how we have a perfect father in Him. Part 1 is uploaded and part 2 will be up next Monday. Our hope is to continue to post coffee chats on Monday and we hope that you stay tuned!
